• I've heard about an arts district being organized in Massillon, when and where will this happen?
The City of Massillon and Arts in Stark are working on a project entitled the 20/20 Vision plan. The idea is to create an arts district much like what is in Canton in Massillon as well as other surrounding areas by the year 2020.
Since our opening in July of 2010, Thirteenth Floor has been committed to hosting events and concerts monthly in support of the arts. Although, we don't have a sign in Downtown Massillon that says "Arts District", we do have an art community that is thriving and you will continue to see it grow. The gallery has it's own plan of attack when it comes to the arts in Downtown Massillon.
• I read that you were adding a stage and turning a portion of the gallery into a live music venue, what happened?
This was the plan and the gallery had every intention of doing that... the building inspector in Massillon shot down the idea. This doesn't mean that it won't happen someday though. Whether we do some major renovations, open up one of the other spaces in the building to add a venue or move to a new location in Massillon... eventually it will happen. For now, we're going to stick to the outside live events out front of the gallery and we'll be looking to rent out other venues for live music performances.
In short, I'm working on it ;)
• There's no such thing as a dumb question, True or False?
False.
